Srinagar, May 05 (KNO): As locals within the radius of 20 KM were exempted from paying toll tax on National Highway 44 connecting Kashmir Valley at Kaichachkoot toll plaza, the toll plaza management is refusing to entertain any exemption.
According to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the commuters living within a radius of 20 Km around the toll plaza complained that the management at plaza is not following the decision of the administration.
Shehzad, a local resident said that since the toll plaza is given to private firms, every firm that comes makes its own rules and they hardly follow the regulations set by the authorities.
He said that despite falling within 20 Km radius, the management at toll plaza is denying them any exemption.
Locals said that for the last more than 6 months, the administration and private firms had been accepting the power of attorney but the recent firm that has now taken over the toll plaza has stopped giving any exemption to the residents.
They said that the sudden change in policy by a private firm has raised questions on the legality of such steps as they cannot declare a genuine Power of Attorney as illegal—(KNO)
